OmegaQuant, Omega-3 Index Plus Test
Guidelines count servings. We think you should count what’s in your blood.
The OmegaQuant Omega-3 Index Plus Test is an at-home finger-prick kit. A few drops of blood on a collection card, one envelope in the mail, and in 2–4 weeks you have your numbers, saved to your Seatopia account so you can track them over time. No additional lab fee.
What it measures
- Omega-3 Index: the percentage of EPA+DHA in the membranes of your red blood cells. Red blood cells live about 120 days, so the result shows your average intake over the past 3–4 months, not what you ate yesterday.
- Omega ratios: your total omega-6 to omega-3 ratio, and your arachidonic acid (AA) to EPA ratio.
- Trans Fat Index: a measure of industrially produced trans fats in whole blood.
- Dietary tables to help you plan what to eat next.
Results are appropriate for the general adult population.
How it works
- Collect. Register your kit, then collect a drop of blood on the card and place it in the mailing pouch.
- Mail. Put your sample in the prepaid return envelope and drop it in the mail.
- Get results. In 2–4 weeks you get your personalized results.
- Adjust. Use your results, and your healthcare provider’s guidance, to adjust what you eat.
Test, eat, test again
There’s a finger-prick test for your omega-3 index. Take it, change one thing, retest in four months.
Researchers who study the omega-3 index measure blood levels rather than servings, and target higher intakes than general guidelines.
When you change what’s on your plate, we publish what’s in it. Our King Salmon tested at 2,414 mg EPA+DHA per 6 oz serving. Values vary by sample and season.

What’s included in your results
The Omega-3 Index; omega ratios (total omega-6 to omega-3, and arachidonic acid (AA) to EPA); the Trans Fat Index, a measure of industrially produced trans fats in whole blood; and dietary tables. Results are appropriate for the general adult population.
Collection instructions
- Remove all components from the small plastic bag. Locate the collection card with the barcode on the front.
- Register the test kit on our Omega Index page using the barcode on the collection card. You will not receive your results unless it is registered.
- Fill out the information requested on the collection card.
- Improve blood flow before the finger prick: wash your hands in warm water, then stand and shake your hand at your side.
- Clean the tip of the finger (index, middle or ring) with the alcohol wipe. Let the alcohol dry on its own.
- Twist off the blue protective lancet cover. Place the lancet lightly on the tip of your clean finger and press down firmly until you hear a click.
- Wipe away the first drop of blood with the gauze.
- Gently squeeze the finger so a blood drop forms. This can take 15–30 seconds, so be patient.
- Let the blood drop fall from your finger onto the center circle of the collection card.
- When the blood spot is collected, press the gauze pad on your finger and bandage the prick site.
- Let the blood spot dry with the flap open for several minutes, then fold the flap over the dried spot.
- Place the collection card in the plastic bag and seal it. Put the bag in the prepaid return envelope and mail it the same day.
- Discard the lancet and other supplies in the trash.
